Meet Sophie
I have been a teacher for about 8 years and it is something that has really called to me, as I enjoy watching children learn how to navigate in the world around them. To watch them learn through own experiences and develop a sense of self, show through their actions that they are learning what empathy means, and learning how to be members of a community, it's an empowering feeling, knowing that I have helped them to achieve greatness.
It was when I was in high school and tutored young children at the local elementary school that I first began working with children. The school was for children who came from low income families and a place for children to learn and grow with guided help from teachers. When helping these deserving children I knew that I wanted to do something in the world that involved helping others. It was in college that I then fell in love with Early Childhood Education after taking a class with a phenomenal professor, who gave me the feeling of, "Wow, this is what I want to do professionally."

The "Classroom" Environment
This is a virtual classroom for children who have the itch to learn new things, create, engage, and feel a part of a classroom community during a time of uncertainty. As we wait for news of when children and teachers can return back to school, many children and parents are feeling anxious and perhaps a sense of being stuck. Staying inside so much is not easy and children want and need stimulation. I hope to create a space where children can feel connected to learning and where parents can relax for a little while knowing their child is occupied.
As a teacher, I miss being in the classroom and engaging with students, watching them grow and develop right before my eyes. I think it is important for children to learn that adults struggle too, feel strong emotions, and are also figuring it out along the way. My goal is to bring some comfort, some happiness, and a new kind of community for children and families to feel a part of during these rough times.
**September, 2020 Update: Now that the new school year has officially begun, the stress of how children should learn becomes apparent. Whether your child is attending school in person, doing remote learning, or is home-schooled, it is important that children continue to feel excited about learning. For any help or suggestions on how to approach this new way of learning feel free to send me a message and I will be more than happy to give advice, help create a personalized schedule for you and your family, or answer any questions you might have. It's a tricky time in education but we will get through it together!
